This is our story... This is how Neptuno Hotel & Spa in Calella came to being.

It’s 1958. The textile industry was thriving and our great-grandparents, the Noguera family, as it was called back then, decided to buy an old textile factory in the centre of Calella. They wanted to keep growing and they saw it as a great opportunity. At the time, they already had two daughters, Josefa and Benita.

A few years later, they saw that tourism was starting to boom and the first foreign holidaymakers in Calella stayed in private homes.

Being an enterprising family that loved taking on new challenges, they embarked on an adventure: they wanted to convert the factory into a small hotel. A HOTEL! Just imagine the challenge they had converting a factory into a space suitable for accommodating guests.

There was a garage on the ground floor of the building and with a stroke of serendipity, Gregorio, the mechanic, fell in love with our grandmother Josefa.

After a lot of hard work, the big day arrived. On 16 April 1961, the one-star Hotel Tourist opened its doors.

The hotel was designed to welcome tourists despite our grandparents not knowing a thing about tourism, or languages for that matter (except Catalan and Spanish, of course). The family aimed to receive tourists in the hotel’s 28 rooms.

It was a huge success. The guests were very satisfied and loved that most of the staff were family. The hotel became a pleasant place to stay and was a home away from home for many holidaymakers.

That same year, in 1961, our grandmother Josefa married Gregorio Hernando.

Seeing the warm reception the hotel had received, in 1962, they took over a second building, obtaining 78 rooms. And the current name was coined: Hotel Neptuno.

Josefa and Gregorio worked alongside our aunt Benita and uncle Ángel. What an era that was! They took their Seat 600 to central Europe in the middle of winter scouting for more guests.

The business gradually innovated and they even installed bathrooms in the bedrooms, earning the hotel two stars. The family grew and both couples had children.

With the tourism boom of the 1980s, they decided to buy a third property, reaching 106 rooms and earning three stars.

In 1985, our mother Marta and our Auntie Alba started working at the hotel. They bought another property and created 12 apartments.

In 1990, our mother took over the business so that our grandparents could retire.

In 2009, she bought an adjoining building to build a second block of apartments and parking spaces. At that time, she had a three-star hotel with 106 bedrooms and 28 apartments, classified three keys (the apartment rating system used in Spain).

And we’re approaching the present day!

In 2019, we (Marina and Sònia Corral) started working for the family business. And since then, we’ve ventured into an ambitious project: refurbishing the hotel to earn ****Superior rating, where comfort, sustainability and personalised services are what sets us apart.

AND HERE WE ARE 60 YEARS AFTER OUR GREAT-GRANDFATHER CONVERTED A FACTORY INTO A HOTEL!

We want to welcome you and look after you as if you were one of the family. We want you to feel right at home.

During 2021, we have endeavoured to make every single inch of our hotel a place where you can feel comfortable. We want to be a benchmark of sustainability because we are conscious of the impact we all have on the environment.

But above all, YOU’RE our priority! Because we want your holidays to be unforgettable.

See you soon!

Sònia and Marina Corral.
