7 tips for traveling with your pet
By ,
Our pet is always key member of the family. When preparing a trip, it is always difficult to leave him behind. Why don’t you take him with you? Don't leave your faithful companion behind! Today we bring you a list of 7 basic tips for traveling with animals. It is time to enjoy your holidays with them :)

1. Decide the form of travel
Keep in mind that the sensitivity of cats or dogs is not the same as yours towards travel. Firstly, you should decide the form of travel. Train? Car? Airplane?
Let's say you decided to visit Spain by car. If so, you need to know that its legislature bans traveling with loose animals for security reasons.
To avoid any kind of accident with your pet, you will need to protect him with the correct equipment such as a harness, dividing grid or a carrier (safest option). At the time of acquiring them, think about your animal’s dimensions, so that it can feel comfortable.
2. Choose Pet Friendly Hotels
Despite the fact that lots of hotels allow pets in their establishments, there are exceptions. Therefore, you must be especially careful with the place where you are going to stay during your getaway or holidays.
In that sense, most places will admit your pet. We recommend you to look for places with large natural areas such as mountains, natural parks and beaches.
3. Documentation
If you are going to travel with animals, you will need to have all their documentation ready. Do not forget to take his health card with you, which includes info about his vaccines.
If you travel abroad, you will need to know the regulations of that destination and the requested vaccines. Depending on your pet’s size and proportion, it may not be allowed to travel with you in the seat.
You must be aware of the regulations anywhere you go. Remember that there are certain limitations on travel caused by the pandemic. So, if you are going to travel anywhere, you will need a negative PCR test.
4. Veterinary checkup
Health is one of the essential factors to check before travelling with your pet. Visit your trusted vet and check that everything is in order. If you need any special vaccine, get it. The specialist will recommend you to bring an emergency kit, which will solve you some basic needs.
5. Food and toys
When traveling with animals, we recommend you to prepare a separate bag with its accessories, food and toys. It is vitally important that you feed your pet with fresh food such as natural feed. Even though we break our diet when traveling, our pet needs his special nutrients to stay healthy. Pack your treats!
If you take any medicine, don't forget it at home. It is also advisable to ask your vet what to take in order to optimize his experience and enjoyment.
6. Avoid feeding it before the trip
In order to prevent dizziness, avoid feeding your pet before boarding. It will prevent him to become more nervous during the trip.
However, if your pet has special nutritional needs or an advanced age, you should take different measures. If it is not in good health you need to decide if it is a good plan or not to take him with you.
In the same way, if the trip is long and you are traveling by car, we recommend you to take regular pauses, so your pet manages to drain energy and relieve himself.
7. Train your pet
If you are going to travel with pets, one of the most recommended tips is to practice car tours with him before starting the adventure. In this way, the dog or cat will get used to that environment. It will help him to avoid the generation of anxiety or stress.
Another alternative is to take a walk or play with the animal hours before the trip. He will feel more relaxed during the trip.
We hope these tips will help you to prepare a funny and safe getaway with your faithful companion. If you have previously traveled with your pets, we would love to hear about your experience.
